A £9m million investment in 600 new vehicles has been made by rental and leasing company Autohorn Group.
York based Autohorn are the biggest car and van rental and leasing company in the city and the investment is part of an overall £20m spend this year on cars and vans – 80 per cent of which is spent with York motor dealers.
Lee Underwood, Autohorn’s Managing Director, said: “Our whole business ethos is based on supporting local businesses with virtually all of our suppliers being York based.
“We are the biggest customer of all the garages we deal with including Toyota, VW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. Supporting the local economy is a fundamental part of our business.”
The business started 17 years ago with a modest hire fleet of six Rover 400s. Now the company supplies hundreds of lease cars to major corporations and local authorities and operates a hugely successful franchise for Europcar from York Railway Station.
The Autohorn Group employs 81 people and has three bases in the city including its main offices on York Station.
“We have come a long way in 17 years with most of our leasing contracts coming through personal recommendations,” said Mr Underwood
“We provide a vital service to York’s visitors handling some 225,000 days of car rental bookings a year through our Europcar franchise.

“We are an environmentally friendly company and buy low emission vehicles and we are looking to increase our a fleet of city friendly hybrid cars into our range in the near future.”
